Unlike incremental rotary encoders, absolute rotary encoders can output the exact position value immediately, without referencing, and without movement of the encoder shaft.
A unique characteristic of the Lenord + Bauer magnetic absolute rotary encoders is the Vernier measurement method, which offers a particularly high resolution of up to 16 bit in single turn, or 28 bit in multiturn operation (65,536 steps per revolution). Motion processes are acquired with an accuracy of 0.08°, and are output in a reproducible signal quality.
This is possible because they are scanning a ferromagnetic code disc in the sensor housing. The code disc features three tracks, each with different contour numbers. As soon as the absolute rotary encoders are connected to the power supply, the absolute position can be precisely determined by means of the distinct phase offset between the three tracks.
Together with their high level of accuracy, the magnetic absolute rotary encoders from Lenord + Bauer have the big advantage of providing exact measurement data even under changes in ambient temperature, fluctuations in humidity, strong vibrations, or condensation.

For high bearing loads, the use of encoder series GEL 2037 - developed as cost-efficient starter model for the real heavy-duty area - is recommended. The measuring system of this series is based on contactless scanning of a diametrical magnet. Within one turn the magnetoresistive sensors measure the absolute position, while the integrated, mechanical gear saves the number of turns. Overall, this results in a resolution of 13 bit in single turn, or 25 bit in multiturn version.
