For positioning drives, cabling and integration into an existing plant control is often more complex and labour-intensive. Here the PowerDRIVE-System from Lenord + Bauer is the answer. It consists of positioning drives in various designs, a hybrid cable for bus communication and energy supply, as well as a decentral communication unit.
The compact positioning drives PowerDRIVE (WxHxD 60 x 100 x 160 or 125 mm) are the core of the system. Each positioning drive is a complete mechatronics unit with integrated positioning control, power section, motor, gearbox, and absolute measuring system. The absolute measuring system detects the position directly after the power is switched on.
A reference search routine is not required.
Assembly takes place by means of a hollow shaft without additional coupling. Various accessories are available in form of torque supports, mounting brackets and drive shafts. Other equipment options include a holding brake and manual emergency adjustment.
Since the positioning drives are designed for an extended temperature range (-10 °C to +60 °C), they are particularly suited for use in food processing. Accordingly, they are also available with stainless steel housings in protection class IP 67.
Basically, you can connect the positioning drives from Lenord + Bauer to a higher level control system directly via CANopen or PROFIBUS-DP. For this purpose, product versions with flying leads or plug outlets are available.
However, it is much simpler to use a hybrid cable to connect the positioning drives to the decentral control unit "PowerDRIVE-Box", which can easily be integrated into different automation architectures via fieldbus interface. The advantage to the machine engineer is that he only needs to adapt the data interface of the control box, without having to equip the individual positioning drives with a new interface. This flexibility is of particular interest to export-oriented companies when, for instance, a packaging machine is to be delivered to Europe instead of the U.S.A..
With hybrid cables, up to five positioning drives can be connected to each PowerDRIVE-Box. The hybrid cable replaces two fieldbus cables and the separate power supply. This significantly reduces the cabling work.
To protect the hybrid cables, the PowerDrive-Box features an integrated cable protection. The energy supply of the motors can be switched off separately, e.g. via an external safety relay. In case of an error, e.g. not halt activation, the power supply of the control electronics of the PowerDRIVE-Box and the positioning drives is maintained. State monitoring and bus communication also remain active.
Lenord + Bauer offers software function blocks to simplify integration into new, but also existing automation solutions. Thus, the engineering effort is kept to a minimum and commissioning costs are significantly reduced.
